The Way We Worked: Photographs from the National Archives
"Cutting Press," at Dupont Denemours Co., Carney's Point, New Jersey, 1919.
This photograph of women cutting lengths of fuses in a munitions plant was part of the federal government's efforts to document the movement of women into war-related manufacturing. It also depicts the "de-skilling" of work, using unskilled workers to do repetitive tasks that were broken down into small parts.
